Intestinal Function

A well-functioning digestive system is crucial to overall good health. The gastro-intestinal tract processes the nutrients in our food, which are needed for the normal functioning of every organ in the body. At the same time however, it must provide an efficient barrier that will exclude undigested dietary molecules, bacterial compounds, environmental toxins; it also plays an integral role in the functioning of the immune and nervous system. Dysbiosis (overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria in the intestine), infections, food intolerances can affect the intestinal tract, disrupt the gut barrier integrity, dysregulate the mucosal immunity, and finally affect the overall health.
